The Real Losers in the Used Game Industry.....

From next-gen itself.

It seems that publishers don't make any revenue from used game sales at all, which is logical and understandable. But that doesn't stop publishers from voicing their anger at this in more ways than one. Apparently the publisher and developer suffer the most, because they get no say at all in regards to the pricing of used games. Not to mention they don't even see a cent of it. Seems unfair considering those two are the people we rely on to get these games to us on timely schedules.

As I was reading this article, I began to think of the PSN store and Live Marketplace. Even the Wii has a marketplace. Then I got to the part within the article which suggested digital downloads. Then it hit me, that is HOW the publisjhers make their money back or whatever so called losses they take from used game shops. The microtransaction system.

Or perhaps we are only seein the beginning of downloadable games. Sony proved it was possible to download WHOLE Next-Gen games with releases such as Warhawk and Tekken 5. With the large size of the Ps3 hdd, this is only the beginning. But I doubt the use game resell markety is stifling innovation, let the article tell it, the resell market is AIDING in innovation. Because now these publishers have to find other ways to get their games to the public. Add on to the fact that now developers have to come up with better methods of compression.

The only downside that may come out of all this is that we may see if Sony was right about NEEDING blu ray for gaming. But that has already been proven that we may need larger size discs for next gen games by one of MS 360 flagship titles. Bioshock.
